Tribute: "Glinda of Oz" by L. Frank Baum - A Final Goodbye

"I'm glad I don't know everything, Dorothy, and that there are still things in both nature and wit for me to marvel at!'

L. Frank Baum -- Glinda of Oz

This 14th book from the mystical Land of Oz series by L Frank Baum written in 1920 really packs a punch considering the dozen-plus stories he created for this land of enchantment. As the last book in the series, it gently suggests to readers the value of prosperity and peace as the ideal moral for living, despite two tumultuous groups who want war with one another. The luscious Princess Ozma journeys with Dorothy through a volatile land of the Flatheads and Skeezers and adamantly refuse to get involved. Sadly, later forced to mediate the situation, Dorothy and Ozma are imprisoned and then dunked in an underwater submersion that can only be stopped by the good and true Glinda the Good Witch.

So why read this last book over any of the others from Oz? It is a dreamlike adventure of suspense and magic that is sure to mesmerize readers of any age done in sayonara style. In short, Mr. Baum meant for it to be the great conclusion to the greatest project of his life in the writing of the Oz series of books. It is, in essence, every child's idea of an exciting fairyland where each main character from the other 13 books appears for a final adieux!
